Newsflash

This Coptic tattoo design, part of the repertoire of pilgrimage tattoos done in Jerusalem in the early 1900s, is a schematic scene of what is known as either the Lord's Supper or the Last Supper. In it, JESUS meets with his twelve disciples for Passover, just prior to his execution. The symbolism in this image has many layers and reflects many of the basic tenets of Christianity but particularly expresses the institution of the sacrament. It is a ritual where believers consume the body and BLOOD of Jesus in the form of bread and wine, expressing their communion and unity with him.
